|The Berlin Film Festival - Berlinale - February 2002|

|The Berlinale is the first major European Film Festival in the calender each year, introducing films which will subsequently be seen in festivals and cinemas worldwide. The Berlinale is organised in several sections, Competition, Panorama, Forum, German Cinema and the Children's Film Festival. New Festival Director Dieter Kosslick introduced a series of day long Conference sessions and announced the creation of a Conference style forum for young film-makers in 2003.
The films which won the best general reception included 'Gosford Park' dir: Robert Altman (out of competition), 'Taking Sides - Der Fall Furtwaengler' dir: Istvan Szabo (out of competition) and 'Bloody Sunday' dir:Paul Greengrass, which went on to share the Golden Bear with Japanese box office sensation, the animation film 'Sen to Chihiro No Kamikakushi' (Spirited Away)dir: Hayao Miyazaki.
