| English notes to Brazilian Portuguese Interview.
Interview with Tarcisio Vidgal [spelling: tarsizio widigau] We have talked to Tarcisio Vidgal, the President and General Director of the Brazilian Cinema Promotion Group (Grupo Novo de Cinema e TV). This Group promotes and distributes Brazilian films outside Brazil. Last year they´ve been in 102 film festivals all over the world. There are five Brazilian films in the festival this year: "The Man of The Year" in the Panorama, "Mango Yellow" and "Sixth Street no Number" in the International Forum, and two short films "Sequence Shot" and the childrens film "Sky of Iracema". Beside these features, the Promotion Group brought 18 films for the European Film Market. The Brazilian film industry produces an average of 60 films per year. Last year´s best international film market was France, which buyed 8 Brazilian films. One of the big surprises among the Brazilian film material of this year, is a restored and remastered DVD Edition of Glauber Rocha´s "Black God - White Devil" ("Deus e o Diabo na Terra do Sol"), a film screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 1964, where it won the critic´s prize and marked the entry of the new Brazilian film movement - Cinema Novo - onto the world stage. 4 other films by Glauber Rocha are being restored and remastered and should be presented this year. All in all the Berlinale is an important visiting card [in German: Vitrine] for the Brazilian cinema. |
